South Australias Surfing Competitions

‍ ‍The First Yorkes Classic Surfing Competition was held in 1983. Held annually on the lower Yorke Peninsula around the Stenhouse Bay and Pondalowie Bay area within the Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park. The first event was organised by local surfers Paul Balserack and Rob Morcom and Chrisine Cox of the South Australian surfing Ascociation. The competition consisted of three seperate rounds with each surfer surfing 1 heat in each round. An accumulated point system from each surfers heats surfed eventuated with the comp winner. Day 1 and round 1 of the event was held at Baby Lizards surf break. Day 2 of the event was held in rising surf at Ponderlowie Bay, with the second round held on the left in the morning and the third round held on the righthander as the surf increased in size. the eventual winner over the 3 rounds was Andrew Gower of Port Noarlunga.
