SOUTH AUSTRALIA’S ONLINE SUFING MUSEUM

The Surfing History of South Australia

ABOUT

About The Surf Chasers

‍ ‍The Surf Chasers is an independent online museum dedicated to preserving the history of surfing in South Australia.

Unlike several other Australian states, South Australia has no dedicated surfing museum. Much of its history remains scattered through family photograph albums, old magazines, surfboard workshops, club records and the memories of the people who were there. As time passes, many of those photographs, names and stories are in danger of being lost.

The Surf Chasers was created by Rodney “Weasel” Bedford, a lifelong South Australian surfer, surfboard builder and filmmaker with more than fifty years of involvement in surfing. Drawing upon personal experience, historical research and material contributed by members of the surfing community, Rodney is building a permanent record of the clubs, surfers, surfboard builders, competitions and personalities that shaped surfing across South Australia.

This is an evolving archive rather than a finished history. New photographs, results and stories will continue to be added, and information may be updated as further evidence and firsthand recollections become available.

If you have old surfing photographs, club records, competition results, surfboard labels, personal memories or corrections to information published here, you are invited to make contact. Every contribution can help preserve another piece of South Australian surfing history for future generations.
